Friends with Flair Friday

Hey there!  Happy Friday!  It's friends with flair time Unity Style!

I found a new challenge blog called Tag You're It!  I was bummed I totally missed the DT call for it but they are getting started and are having a mini challenge this week so for Friends with Flair I decided to play along!

The challenge is an inspiration challenge so this is the inspiration tag to take from it what you will:

Here is what I created for this challenge using Unity Stamps:

I used distress inks in the background and paper pieced the umbrella.  Not sure how CAS I ended up with but I did make it pretty quick and love how it came out!  Can't wait to play again with these challenges as I love making tags!

Just Us Girls Color Challenge

Happy Summer!!!  

This week I'm the hostess for the Just Us Girls Challenge!

  I have to say I'm not a huge fan of Summer (I hate the heat) but I do love Summer colors and images when crafting.  One of my favorite combos is Orange and Yellow.  So that is this week's color challenge Orange, Yellow plus a neutral of your choice.

Friends with Flair

Hi All!  TGIF!  It's Unity Friends with Flair!

So this week I put my cards into a 2nd local store, so I was excited!  Here is a picture of the display from one store:

Mixed Media Card Challenge

Hi there!

I haven't been the only one starting a Mixed Media Blog there are some other cool ones out there as well!  One being The Mixed Media Card Challenge and they are having a call to fill their DT.  This weekend I made a card to submit.

In the "She Art" style I made this:

Watercolor Stamping

Welcome to another fun Just Us Girls Challenge!  This week is technique week and Sue V is our hostess.  The technique this week is one that is all the rage lately - watercolor stamping!  Watercolor stamping is so easy and looks fabulous.  Just use some distress inks, gelatos, distress papers, sprays anything that reacts with water would work create.  Stamp up or color using chosen medium and spray the stamp with some water from a spritzer, then stamp. 

Here is what I came up with using a stamp from the Unity Layer's Of Life set.

Unity Friends with Flair Friday

It's time for some flair!  Unity Friends with Flair that is!  So what do you do when you want to create but there's no mojo....  Alter boxes of course!  I sat at my desk the other day to do something but I wasn't feeling it so I took a Trader Joe's K-Cup box (which I've done many times before) and altered it.

Friends with Flair Friday

It's Friday folks and time for Unity Friends with Flair!  I decided to do the June tag from Tim Holtz's 12 tags of 2014!  He used a "watercolor" technique with stencils.  Tim shared this technique in the watercolor for carmakers class I took and it's fun.

Not included is my stencil which I believe is a Hedi Swapp circle stencil.

Do you like Mixed Media?  This tag can certainly be termed a mixed media tag for sure!  I used sprays, ink, stamp, stencils.  Come join us over at Mixed Media Mojo for some great mixed media inspiration!  I started the blog with a few crafty friends and we are so excited about it.

Mixed Media Mojo - Challenge #1

I am so excited to share the first Mixed Media Mojo Challenge!  We want to encourage the fun mixed media play where really there are no rules!

However to guide you a bit here are some definitions that I shared in a previous post over at Mixed Media Mojo:

What is Mixed Media anyway?  Here is a simple definition from Wikipedia:

"Mixed media, in visual art, refers to an artwork in the making of which more than one medium has been employed."

Pretty simple but then you may ask what is Medium? Again from Wikipedia:

"In the arts, a medium is a material used by an artist or designer to create a work."

So medium can be anything really some simple examples: inks, paints, papers, gels and pastes.  But the list can go on and on.  So if you are a carmaker/scrapbooker and haven't tried Mixed Media yet you can because odds are you have enough supplies to give it a go.  

My simple suggestion is to take a piece of card stock and add a layer of gesso to it or if you don't have Gesso try white craft paint.  It just gives the paper a surface some tooth for you to work on. Basically its a primer for your paper but looks like white paint.  But beware when using gesso as it does not come out of your clothes like white craft paint will.  So to begin with use what you have on hand.  I found inexpensive gesso at Walmart and with a coupon at Michael's its not too bad.  Next all you have to do is pick some mediums to use.  You probably have lots of ink pads and sprays that's a great start.  Toss in some of that "scrap" paper and stamps and you are good to go!

The first challenge is a simple one:  Use Stamps and at least 2 Mediums on your project.  

Create what you want!  You can do an art journal page, make a card or use a canvas.  We can't wait to see what you create!

I like to try and take pictures of the supplies I used so if you have any questions let me know.  So we were required to use 2 mediums here I used Sprays & inks but also used paper as well.

I hope you will play along with our challenge.  It will be up for a month so there's plenty of time.  And during the month every Wednesday we will share some fun Mixed Media on the blog.
